DPS A PILLAR OF EXCELLENCE - ASHOK CHANDRA
“Today is a very special day for DPS, Sharjah” said Principal Mam announcing the first ever official visit of Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman of Delhi Public School Society on Sunday, 15 April, 2007. Her words proved tellingly true as the moments Mr. Chandra spent with our students, delightfully eloquent observations he shared with the Dipsites, and his casual talk with our post holders revealed a man who is genuinely honest in what he said, brimming with enthusiasm, wider perspective and strong convictions as to how a child should be educated in these days.
During a special assembly conducted by the newly appointed Head Boy and Head Girl, Mrs. Abha Sahgal, Principal DPS Sharjah welcomed the chairman and Prof B P Khandelwal who accompanied him. “Your extremely discerning eye does not miss anything. When words of appreciation and encouragement come out from such a person, I consider it as great honour and source of immense motivation for us to scale much more than what we are expected to. The time I spent with him and the words he spoke have cut through whatever limitations I unknowingly placed on myself. I’ve decided to spend more time learning much more than what I am supposed to know,” said Mrs. Abha Sahgal.
Highlights of Mr. Ashok Chandra's views as he shared with the student community: |
Admiring the way the DPS Sharjah is doing, he said that the school has been prominently figured as a ‘pillar of excellence among DPS society schools’ and has etched a unique place in the UAE as an instrument of imparting the best education in the region.
He congratulated the newly appointed head boy and head girl and reminded them of the tremendous responsibility as representatives of the student community. “The student council must be a really working entity where they ensure that they do what they needed to do. There should be periodic meeting of the student body debating through issues and making observations of what is possible and not while actively assisting the school authority. The body acts as a bridge between the school authority and student community. The elected members should be aware of the great feel of authority bestowed upon them.
"Education must be complete in all respect. The great global family of DPS schools ensure that proper development of the intelligence is realized so that every dipsite will grow to be all rounded personalities second to none. Towards this goal in mind he suggested that every child must participate in one or the other physical activity as it is vital for their proper development. Not that some play and some roam around during the PE period. Every child must take up a particular game and pursue it on regular basis with commitment."
"Learning is a life long experience. Its goal is not just to earn a decent livelihood. It is to mould you into good human being, a good member of the society by setting an exemplary standard in the attitude, behavior and values that you show forth."
"DPS stands out as a global family of school giving the best holistic education in the world. We inculcate courage, values and ethos deeply embedded in our heart to stand out as leaders, as good human beings who're caring, sharing , kind and modest having a fellow feeling working towards achieving greater things not only for yourself but for the society around you."
Mr. Ashok Chandra said he was highly impressed by the dedicated lot of teachers at DPS Sharjah. "Don’t bask in the yesterday’s glory but continue to achieve more by setting higher standards of excellence."
He also suggested that we should not be hesitant in incorporating better ideas from our neighboring schools doing a better job than us in certain areas. We must be the best all the time everywhere. Keep your eyes and ears always open to ideas."
Prof B P Khandelwal said that the best in life is to find your Guru who is more than a teacher. He is the one who removes the darkness in our mind and enables us to learn. He wished that DPS teachers would fulfill this role in the life of children.
